Struggling with Scoliosis

Andrew was diagnosed with scoliosis about two months ago.  Since then, we've had him fitted with a TLSO (brace), which he's supposed to wear whenever he's seated in his wheelchair (thankfully, not prescribed for sleeping).  Hoping to prolong the increasing curvature, but he hates it.  Specifically asked that he NOT have to wear it to the Yankees game (today) or to sleepaway camp (next month)  How mean of a mom can/should I be?

Many teens with CP struggle with this, and I'm wondering what we can do to help make it more manageable for him.  Trying to research online for suggestions.  Thoughts via blog are welcome.

Hoping to fend off back surgery for awhile, which also scares us.  Andrew knows this is important, but he's a typical teen and doesn't like the brace for all the right reasons. Plus, it's summer -- and getting hotter.

What's a mom to do?
